Production Notes"The Drop" is based on "Animal Rescue" is based on a short story by Dennis Lehane, from the collection Boston Noir. "Animal Rescue" has also been the working title for the film. Hollywood has clearly taken a liking to Lehane, having already adapted quite a bit of his work (Gone Baby Gone, Shutter Island and Mystic River). Director Michael Roskam already worked with Matthias Schoenaerts, who have a stellar performance in the director's Oscar nominated Bullhead.
Sadly, "The Drop" is actor James Gandolfini's last film. He wrapped his scenes shortly before his untimely death in June 2013.
