Screencaptures from three of Noomi’s films – Babycall, Dead Man Down and Passion – have been re-added to the photo gallery in better Blu-Ray quality. It was quite interesting revisiting these projects which were made in the first couple of years after Noomis “Millennium” breakout – here you have a chilling Nordic thriller, a very generic American actioner and a very stylish arthouse retro by Brian DePalma. If you haven’t seen them in a while, I’d recommend any of those for a rainy Sunday afternoon. Enjoy.

Swedish director Ruben Ostlund’s class warfare comedy “Triangle of Sadness” won the Palme d’Or on Saturday. The awards were selected by a nine-member jury headed by French actor Vincent Lindon and presented Saturday in a closing ceremony inside Cannes’ Grand Lumière Theater. The jury’s second prize, the Grand Prix, was shared between Lukas Dhont’s drama “Close” and French filmmaking legend Claire Denis’ “Stars at Noon.” Korean star Song Kang Ho was named best actor for Hirokazu Kore-eda’s film “Broker,” while Best actress went to Zar Amir Ebrahimi for her performance as a journalist in Ali Abbasi’s “Holy Spider.” Saturday’s closing ceremony brought to a close a Cannes that attempted to fully resuscitate the annual France extravaganza that was canceled in 2020 by the pandemic and saw modest crowds last year. As Noomi mentioned in an interview during the festival, she is now off to start shooting the Apple TV+ series “Constellation”.

WWD has posted a nice article and interview with Noomi: If there’s a Palme d’Or awarded for having fun, it should go to Noomi Rapace. Because she is clearly having the best time at this Cannes festival, taking in every dinner and late-night party, not to mention seeing 21 films in 12 days. The actress is making the most of her experience as a member of the main competition jury. In her hotel suite dressed in a sculptured Celine gown and diamonds from Chopard, Rapace is sprawled across her bed surrounded by racks of dresses, shoes and jewelry. Every night she’s been going to sleep “as excited as a kid.” Her energy is infectious. “I just feel so amazed, surprised and inspired by all the people around me and all the films,” she tells WWD, careful not to give away any indication of which ones are her favorites so far. That info is kept carefully under wraps until the final selection is revealed Saturday. The complete interview can be read here.

We talk about what is good and what is bad, I find that doesn’t really matter, it needs to do something to you. What is ‘good’ and what is ‘bad’? I love films that stay with me and burn some mark in me,” she says about debating with her fellow panelists. It’s very much about instinct, a bit like falling in love and feeling something. I don’t want to be too analytical and too political and to overthink stuff. If I’m brutally honest, I always know. Then I can dance around and be more diplomatic and I really try to stay open as well for what the other jury members might add or what perspectives they might have on things. I’m also learning from that. It kind of feels like going to school.

The Cannes Film Festival has entered its second week (it will run until Saturday) and Noomi has attended lots of additional events and screenings at the croisette. A list of all new albums can be found below. As part of the jury, Noomi is also interviewed on the festival’s official site, in which she gives us insight into her favorite films and performances.

The very first time I was in Cannes, I was very nervous, I was here because The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo was out in the world and I came here. I was in this big black dress like a big armor. Then I went in Grand Théâtre Lumière, I sat down and I didn’t know what I was going to see. It was A Prophet. The movie just grabbed me and I felt so new born. When the lights came out, I cried so much that I was wet. I stood up and all the cast was standing behind me. Jacques Audiard is one of my favorite director, he was there with Tahar Rahim. It was such a powerful moment that I forgot about myself totally and I was like a mess. (Noomi Rapace, Cannes Film Festival, May 2022)

After what was rumored to be a long search, Thierry Fremaux has found his president for the 2022 Cannes Film Festival Jury. According to The Playlist, legendary French actor Vincent Lindon, who starred in last year’s Palme d’Or winner, “Titane,” will take the mantle following Spike Lee‘s reign last year. Lindon also won the Best Actor prize at the festival in 2015 for “The Measure of a Man.” Joining Lindon will be a slew of well-known international film figures who also happen to be members of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (for those paying attention). Those members include director and actress Rebecca Hall (“Passing”), director Jeff Nichols (“Loving”), Norweigan director Joachim Trier (“The Worst Person in the World”) two-time Oscar winner Asghar Farhadi (“A Separation”), actress Noomi Rapace (“Prometheus”) and French director Ladj Ly (“Les Miserables”). Also on the jury are Indian actress Deepika Padukone and Italian actress, and director Jasmine Trinca (2017 winner of Best Actress in Un Certain Regard for “Fortunata”). Trinca will also be on hand for a special screening of her directorial debut, “Marcel!” In a statement from the Festival, Lindon remarked, “It is a great honor and source of pride to be entrusted, in the midst of the tumult of all the events we are going through in the world, with the splendid, weighty task of chairing the Jury of the 75th International Cannes Film Festival. With my Jury, we will strive to take the best possible care of the films of the future, all of which carry the same secret hope of courage, loyalty, and freedom, with a mission to move the greatest number of women and men by speaking to them of their common wounds and joys. Culture helps the human soul to rise and hope for tomorrow.” Lindon becomes the first French jury president since Isabelle Huppert in 2009. The 2022 Cannes Film Festival runs from May 17-28.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jonathan Banks will star alongside Noomi Rapace in Constellation, a psychological thriller that has been ordered straight to series at Apple. Created by Peter Harness (War of the Worlds, Doctor Who, Wallander), Constellation is described as a conspiracy-based psychological space adventure that explores the dark edges of human psychology, one woman’s desperate quest to expose the truth about the hidden history of space travel and for her to recover all that she has lost. Michelle MacLaren is set to direct the first two episodes of the series, which will mark a reunion for the helmer with Banks following Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. The series serves as MacLaren’s third project with Apple, joining Shining Girls and The Morning Show. Rapace will play Jo, a woman who returns to Earth after a disaster in space – only to discover that key pieces of her life seem to be missing. Banks will play an astronaut. Constellation is co-produced by Turbine Studios and Haut et Court TV. Harness, David Tanner and Tracey Scoffield (Small Axe), Caroline Benjo, Simon Arnal and Carole Scotta (No Man’s Land), as well as Justin Thomson (Liaison) exec produce alongside MacLaren and Rebecca Hobbs (Shining Girls).

I hope you have all enjoyed “Black Crab” on Netflix. I found it to be the almost perfect film – the first two thirds of Adam Berg’s (unfortunately not so fictional war thriller) were brilliant with outstanding cinematography and great acting – the final act fell back a little bit and closed as a rather generic action flick. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it very much and rank it among Noomi’s best films. A week after its release, Netflix has released a couple new videos for the film – including a “Rate That Wig” segment which can only serve as a tribute to the horrible corkscrew wig she wore in the film, and there’s an additional press junket interview which you can all find below.
