In the crime drama, “Dead Man Down,” Noomi Rapace re-teams with the director of the original “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” series, Niels Arden Oplev. She’s still out for revenge, but this time she plays a character who’s been badly scarred in a car accident and labeled a “monster” by her neighbors. When she meets a similarly haunted man who lives across from her (Colin Farrell), she sees a way to get the vengeance she’s been unable to on her own. Rapace spoke with Moviefone about having fun on the set of such a dark movie and how the film’s romance reminded her of ” True Romance” and “Natural Born Killers.”

We have a really good relationship and the amazing thing to work with someone again is that you can skip all the politeness. [Laughs] You can go straight to what’s important. What I like so much about him is that he’s very passionate and he has very strong opinions. I’m kind of the same. When we talk, even though we don’t share the same ideas always or agree with each other, we can always find a solution because we’re very honest. We can always put everything on the table. Sometimes he said to me, “This is a very bad idea, Noomi,” and I was like, “Yeah, maybe it is.” And then sometimes I’d tell him his ideas were crappy and he’d say, “Yeah, I agree with you.” That was something we could continue to build on from “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.” It doesn’t really matter for me if I’m doing movies in Europe or in the States, I need to find a way to become the character and do the same work and it was a pleasure and honor to work with him again.

I like the twist and how their relationship develops and kind of changes into something that neither of them expected. They’re both kind of caught up in a life situation where they’re not happy and they’re not satisfied and they’re driven by anger and rage. They’re on two different revenge roads. When they meet and when they get to know each other, everything changes. But they are fighting the emotions, in a way. I loved working with Colin. We had a really, really good time together. Lots of fun. Also, it kind of reminded me of “True Romance,” those kind of crazy, screwed characters. Also “Natural Born Killers,” in a way, people that are on the edge, but there are still flashes of light that they’re embracing and it’s about being brave enough to find a way back into life.

Yeah, for me, it doesn’t matter if there’s darkness in it. For me, it’s about the journey and what the character’s struggling with. I like complicated, dark characters. But we were laughing a lot, yeah.

I think she would have been caught up in this limbo world forever. I think he’s her savior, in a way.
