Article courtesy Cinematical: On Monday, Noomi Rapace spoke to reporters in Los Angeles in conjunction with the release of ‘The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest,’ which is being released on Friday, October 29. During Cinematical’s conversation with the actress, she discussed the prospect of stepping into the forthcoming ‘Alien’ prequel, and in particular, following in the footsteps of Sigourney Weaver, whose character Ellen Ripley became the prototype for empowered female characters on celluloid. “She’s the one!” Rapace said to Cinematical. “I loved ‘Aliens,’ and I saw it when I was a teenager. It was something completely new, and for me, I remember when I saw it, I was like, wow, what is this?” Many fans of the Swedish film series that she currently stars in have suggested that Rapace’s role as Lisbeth Salander makes her a prime candidate to play a tough female character in the upcoming ‘Alien’ prequels. Rapace, meanwhile, confessed she was a huge fan of Weaver’s work. “I was a big fan, and I think she’s a great actress. She’s done so many things after that also that is just she’s stunning.” Rapace didn’t officially confirm that she was going to be in the ‘Alien’ prequel, but she said she would love to work with director Ridley Scott, who is returning to the film series after more than 30 years. “I would love to work with Ridley, but there’s so many rumors,” she observed. “I’ve read a lot of things about me in the paper and gone, oh really? Okay! Yeah – I didn’t know that! But I’ve met him a couple of times, and it’s amazing for me, but he’s said he’s a big fan of my work, and I’m a really big fan of his work so I would love to work with him. But we’ll see.”Rapace also indicated that Scott’s work was highly influential to her when she was younger. “When I saw ‘Thelma & Louise,’ I think when I was a teenager,” she remembered. “Sometimes you find a movie that helps you through some kind of [experience], and I was very alone and I didn’t have much faith in the world around me at that point. And I saw a lot of Tarantino’s movies, and I saw ‘Thelma & Louise’ and ‘Aliens’ and ‘The Godfather’ when I discovered movies, and I think I pretty much survived by watching movies at that point.” Given the tough persona of Lisbeth Salander, an Ellen Ripley-like character would be a natural fit for her. But whether or not Rapace takes the role, she said that she is more interested in who she gets to work with and what she gets the opportunity to do than whether she carves out a deliberately eclectic career for herself. “I don’t want to plan my career, like, okay – now it’s good for me to do a romantic comedy so people can see if I’m funny and I can be cute. Ugh,” she said emphatically. “That’s not the way I think. It’s more like it’s all about the persons – the script and the director and the other actors, that’s everything that matters.” “So actually the films I’ve done, and also the film I’m doing now with Guy Ritchie, it’s very far away [from Lisbeth Salander], but it’s not like I’ve been looking for that,” she continued. “That’s what people have offered me, and I have been reading hundreds of scripts, and I think that the only thing that I have to know is that I in my heart want to do it. I can’t do it because it’s a good thing to do, or because it’s well-paid; I have to find something that hits me.”
